The contemporary problem of carbon emissions from peatlands
Synopsis
The aim of the article is to characterize peatlands as an emitter of CO2 to the atmosphere and to discuss the problem of the impact of agricultural use on the degradation of peatlands and the emission of CO2 from them. The problem of the global importance of fens and the impact of their use on greenhouse gas emissions are discussed. The results of the degradation of fens are characterized and the necessity and methods of their protection are discussed, with particular emphasis on the rational use of fens by agriculture.
