MAGICAL DOREMIK VS POOR SAM. THE BOY CHARACTERS IN OPERA LIBRETTOS BASED ON THE REPERTOIRE OF THE TEATR WIELKI – POLISH NATIONAL OPERA
Synopsis
Considering the libretto as “a truly literary problem” the author analyses two corpora of fairy-tale stage texts written for children: 1. created between 1965–2020 as a commission of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera (TWON) in Warsaw, 2. originating from foreign repertoire adapted between 1965–2020 on the stage of the national opera. The paper aims to present boy characters appearing in the librettos of stage works for children from the repertoire of the TWON. The analysis of the material is focused on selecting in both corpora of the texts dominant characters, especially as regards to the specific features of the characters that make up the archetypal images in Christoph Booker’s classification.
