Synopsis

Research based on the knowledge of the latest scientific achievements or innovative, previously unused methods of identification brings not only high hopes for the improvement and optimization of evidence proceedings, but also some doubts and huge challenges. This study attempts to formulate criteria for evaluating expert evidence based on new research methods. The conclusions are presented from two perspectives, legal and organizational, based on the analysis of Polish jurisprudence, literature reports, and research experience undertaken as part of the project entitled ‘Genetic database for the identification and profile of the narcotic variety of cannabis’, financed by the National Center for Research and Development (under call for proposals no. 10/2019) for the implementation of grants in the field of scientific research and development for defence and state security.
