Synopsis

The following publication presents the results of a comparative statistical analysis related to accidents at work in Poland reported between 2010 and 2019. Statistical data was taken from the publication of the Central Statistical Office entitled “Accidents at Work”. The paper used the following evaluation criteria: absolute analysis based on the comparison of both number and consequences of accidents (accidents in total, fatal and serious accidents, number of days of incapacity for work), ratio analysis based on the comparison of accident rates (frequency rate, severity rate, risk rate), generic analysis based on the study of specific parameters of accidents (contact-mode of injury, specific physical activity performed at the time of accident, causes of accident). Based on statistics analysis related to accidents at work, it is possible to assess the state of occupational safety in Poland by specifying the number and type of accidents, the frequency and severity of accidents, and the circumstances and causes of accidents. A decreasing trend was reported for the number of victims of accidents, namely: the number of victims of accidents in total (-11.7%), the number of victims of fatal accidents (-31.9%), the number of victims of serious accidents (-38.6%). Similarly, a decreasing trend was found for the number of days of incapacity to work due to accidents (-10.1%). Most of the accident rates were in decline: total accident rate (-22.1%), accident fatality rate (-65.2%), accident severity rate (-48.4%), accident risk rate (-21.0%). The exception was the value of the accident severity rate, where a decreasing trend was found between 2010-2014 (-7.2%) and a constant trend between 2015-2019.
