Synopsis

This chapter focuses on the analysis of the phenomenon of urban sprawl in the context of the development of public transport and was created based on a study of the subject literature. The publication presents the definition and the essence of the phenomenon of "city sprawl" and related terms. The chapter also presents the effects of the sprawl of cities in Poland and around the world, and ways to counteract this phenomenon. The chapter also presents a number of initiatives used in Poland to limit the "sprawl of cities". In particular, the focus here was on initiatives undertaken by Polish cities to reduce urban sprawl.
