Energy security of Great Britain in the context of British-Russian relations
Synopsis
There is many different definitions of the concept of energy security. Their common feature is the ability of the state to ensure uninterrupted availability of energy sources and an affordable price for the final recipient. The energy security of the United Kingdom is a constant priority for the British governments. Its weight grew especially with the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries when the United Kingdom gradually lost its energy self-sufficiency and became dependent on external energy supplies.The purpose of this paper is to answer the question: Is the energy security of the United Kingdom dependent on Russia and if - to what extent? The paper presents the characteristics of the British energy market and details the main threats to the energy stability of Great Britain. The priorities of Russia's energy policy as well as the relations and prospects of British-Russian relations in the area of energy security are also presented.
