The State Security Service against contemporary threats

Synopsis

The aim of the article is to present the main threats to the first and second decade of the 21st century for persons who are legally subject to the protection of the State Security Service. The article also presents the role and tasks of the State Security Service as the main subject in the security system of the Republic of Poland responsible for protecting the most important people in the state. Technological progress, lack of coordination in the sphere of cyber security, changing threats to the safety of people and objects of key importance for the functioning of the state, including terrorist threats, require adjusting to them both tactics of protective, reconnaissance and appropriately selected equipment. Implementation of protective measures using modern methods and means, organizing the organiza-tional structure, adjusting legal regulations, qualified and well-trained staff is to guarantee the effectiveness of the new protective formation. Most of the protective formations in the world are trying to adapt their tasks and activities to new threats. Also, the State Security Service, as a newly created protective formation in place of the Government Protection Bureau, faces the challenges and threats of the first half of the 21st century.
