Legal basis and procedure for recovery of archival materials lost after 1945
Synopsis
After 1944, a huge part of archival materials in Poland was confiscated in favour of the Treasury. Although over 70 years have passed since then, heirs of former owners could take legal action to regain them since the 1990s. The procedure of archive material restitution is extremely complicated, which leads to lengthy court proceedings, however it does not mean that the recovery of private archives is unrealistic. The following article discusses civil court proceedings of these cases
