Synopsis

The paper presents the selected aspects of a collection of works titled Hymny moje domowe (My Domestic Hymns) by the poet, religious polemicist and collector of tax and customs duty, Petrus Vachenius Strelicenus (ca. 1550 - after 1612). It is a very interesting work of Silesian literary culture, documenting the reception of Jan Kochanowski’s works and the seventeenth century spirituality. It is also the example of a humble and modest religious attitude of the Silesian protestant who uses some literary generic patterns from the Book of Psalms. Also, a contemporary, unique and interdisciplinary project of brewing the Wachenius beer is presented in the text. The purpose of the project was to restore the cultural heritage of brewers from Pszczyna and commemorate Petrus Vachenius, and it was implemented on the 400th anniversary of his stay in Pszczyna. The paper is complemented by the anthology of the selected Vachenius’ texts from the presented collection.
