Helena Brodowska-Kubicz (1914-2003). Chłopska córka w profesorskiej todze
Streszczenie
Helena Brodowska-Kubicz (1914–2003) represented a generation of women who entered the world of science during the time of the Polish People's Republic. Despite equal rights and opportunities, professorship was still not common among women. Scientific self-fulfilment required determination and consistency, also present in the academic career of Helena Brodowska, who from her Podlasie peasant home went to achieve scientific prestige and a professor's gown. Despite the twists and turns in her life, she took advantage of the emerging opportunities of her time. She completed the following stages: a teacher working in the Lublin area, a student in Warsaw, a conspirator with the officer rank of Peasant Battalions, up to being promoted to a senior academic staff member at the University of Łódź. Presented together with her environment and her time, the life of Professor Helena Brodowska-Kubicz, a historian and a successful woman, can be seen as a struggle for gender equality in an academic career.
