Streszczenie

The paper focuses on the idea of „confessing gender“ as represented in the selected works of the Russian author Zinaida Gippius. The focus lies on the prayer as a special organizational component of her prose and poetic texts. The author applies the structure of this „symbolic act“ to works written by Zinaida Gippius, in which an actualisation of her basic philosophical concepts like infatuation (влюбленность), new church (новая Церковь) and third (middle) gender (средний (третий) пол)can be found. The object of this study is „the loneliness“ of Gippius’s androgynous mind and the process of reaching a state of mental equilibrium in the conversation with God. This object can be found in her diary entries in Contes d’amour and in her poetic works written between 1889 and 1914. Furthermore, the author addresses Gippius’ artistic presence in the context of Russian literature in early twentieth century. The author concludes that the artistic life of Zinaida Gippius is one of the best examples of a synthesis of artistic production and social engagement.
