OBRONA STANU DUCHOWNEGO PRZED KRYTYKĄ W KAZANIACH DRUKOWANYCH Z CZASÓW PANOWANIA STANISŁAWA AUGUSTA (1764-1795)

During the Enlightenment, the Catholic Church had to face a crisis of faith along with criticism brought about by the emergence of new ideas. The clergy were accused of uselessness and, at the same time, of living a secular lifestyle. Attempts were made to respond to such criticisms via a number of means, including sermons. In this context the texts of Karol Fabiani, Andrzej Filipecki and Gabriel Cedrowicz have been analyzed. The article presents the method of defense and counterarguments of the clergy.
