The paper raises the issue of the access of civilians to firearms. Part 1 presents the basic concepts of security in the literature. Part 2 is devoted to philosophical aspects of security problems. Part 3 provides a definition of weapon and its types. Part 4 is devoted to the administrative and legal aspects of issuing weapon permits in Poland. In part 5, the responsibilities of the possessor of a weapon are outlined. Part 6 is devoted to dilemmas of self-defense with the use of firearms. Part 7 presents the results of public opinion polls on access to weapons. Part 8 contains reflections on the liberalization of civilians' access to firearms.
