Czy nauka ma granice? Nauki o bezpieczeństwie a kwestia dyscyplin pogranicza

The article brings up the matter of cognition and development of science. Against the background of the ontological determinants of scientific progress – the fundamental assumptions of finitism and infinitism alike – the paper contains a thesis that science faces infinite reality, be it in the macro or micro scale. The issue is analyzed in three reality dimensions: material-physical, biological and socio-cultural. Much as there do not exist the limitations of natural, ontological character, there do appear anthropic barriers (limitations). They refer to the activity of the cognitive subject and the general cognitive capabilities (e.g. the advancement of the instru-mentation or cognitive competences, administratively imposed classifications – the borders between/among sciences). Within such a context, the article presents the problems of delimitation of security sciences, and – particularly – the question of the status of the borderline scientific disciplines.
