Streszczenie

Since 2011 there has been a discussion about identity, domain, object and methodological aspects of security and defense sciences. Although military and political sciences (with the specialization in international relations) operated at that time simultaneously, both of them addressing security issues, pressure from the scientific community, development of the theory and doctrine of security (especially in the area of internal security, civil protection and rescue services, fire protection and environmental protection) and practical needs have forced changes in the above areas, even if they were not accepted by everybody. However, seven years has passed and defense science has disappeared. Moreover, it has been difficult to maintain security science as a discipline. Although the identity of security science crystallized with great difficulty over the past seven years, as early as in 2018 the legislator inspired changes that resulted in the elimination of defense sciences, without indicating other disciplines that would take over their undoubtedly rich heritage. Inevitably, there is a conviction that this role will naturally be taken over by security sciences, which until 2018 still had not had a crystallized scope and limits. Indeed, for just a few years in the area of security sciences there was an unimaginable outbreak of scientific and didactic activity, numerous scientific advances and the penetration of security issues by representatives of many scientific disciplines. However, it is still not known what their domain is; can anyone who deals with security sciences (or just claims to be involved in them) be called a security scientist? There are many questions and many different answers and attitudes to this matter. A scientific discipline cannot be a field of activity for everyone. In addition to the subject of research, there are other criteria for its separation. The author enumerates the criteria that should be taken into account to deal with the difficulty of establishing the identity of security science as a discipline. All the considerations are guided by the hint that in order to deal with security sciences one must first learn about the practice of security as a special part of human activity and entities created by man. There is a need to ensure danger-free conditions of human existence and development, minimizing all threats to material goods and to intellectual property, both being subject to protection.
