Zofia Kossak w Polsce niepodległej – od Pożogi do Krzyżowców
Streszczenie
The paper presents the literary development of Zofia Kossak, the most outstanding representative of religious writers in the period of the Second Republic of Poland. In the course of her literary activity she concentrated on the presentation of such problems as God, faith, and also the influence of great historical processes both on individual people and on the whole mankind. It was already in her first work: Conflagration. The Memories from Wołyń between 1917 and 1919 (1922) that she presented her fascination with history and her unique ability to describe great historical processes, in this case the Bolshevik Revolution.
Her novel The Crusaders (1935) was the culmination of Zofia Kossak`s creative his-torical penetrations. This piece of literature made Zofia Kossak recognizable all over the world. It was possible due to her innovative approach to the whole subject of the Crusades, demythologizing their legend, and also due to the author’s interpretation of his-toriosophy as a summary of mankind history.
The conclusion is obvious: Zofia Kossak revealed the possibilities of her creative work in Conflagration. Her talent was confirmed in The Crusaders.
