Materiały dotyczące mniejszości ukraińskiej w zasobie archiwalnym Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej w Lublinie
Streszczenie
The article entitled "Materials on the Ukrainian minority found in the Lublin archive branch of the Institute of National Remembrance” attempts to present different aspects related to the history of Ukrainian minority in the Lublin region. Firstly, the author draws attention to various types of documentation useful for the discussion of this issue. Secondly, the main authors of files belonging to this archive fonds and used for the following article are mentioned, i.e. mostly public security bodies, the judiciary and institutions dealing with crimes committed against the Polish people during and after the war. The majority of this work has been devoted to specific issues related to the Ukrainian minority in the Lublin region, which have been portrayed by materials from the Institute of National Remembrance in Lublin. In general, efforts have been made to maintain chronological and thematic narrative of the presented events. Initially, the activity of Ukrainian committees during the occupation and the so-called Ukrainian Self-Defense Legion has been described. The information about crimes committed against the Polish population in Volhynia in 1943-1945 and subsequent investigations has absorbed less attention.
In particular, records regarding the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists and Ukrainian Insurgent Army have been presented extensively. Owing to the character of documentation stored in the Institute of National Remem-brance, during the analysis of particular events, a lot of attention has been given to the operational activity of the security apparatus. It also includes Ukrainian population never involved in hostilities against Polish citizens. Some of them returned after being displaced in 1947 as part of the "Wisła” campaign and tried to recover their lost property. It led to many antagonistic incidents with Poles, which is clearly illustrated in the preserved documents. Another issue which has been scrupulously discussed is an Ukrainian organisation that operated in Poland, namely the Ukrainian Social and Cultural Association. Finally, the problems of surveillance of the Orthodox clergy and, to a lesser extent, the situation of the Greek Catholics have been brought to attention. This article can provide inspiration for further detailed research into the Ukrainian minority across the Lublin region in 1944-1989.
