The purpose of this article is to discuss the disposal of documents preserved at the State Archives in Poznań, Bydgoszcz Department, in the interwar period. It focuses on the disposal carried out in 1934 1939 since some sources f rom that period have survived. This work includes archival materials collected at the State Archives in Bydgoszcz. Additionally, it presents literature on the subject and selected legal norms of the interwar period. The last stage of the disposal, in which the Bydgoszcz Archive gave its opinion on applications sent by offices together with hand over registers, has been scrupulously examined. In some cases, a Bydgoszcz archivist was forced to visit a file store himself to check if works on documents w ere conducted in an appropriate manner. After issuing an opinion, a decision regarding files was made.
